How to Prep Your Skin for a Boudoir Shoot

Glowing skin = glowing confidence. And no, you don’t need a 10-step K-beauty routine or expensive products. Just a few simple, feel-good habits to help your skin look fresh, smooth, and radiant on the day of your Brisbane boudoir photoshoot.

Here’s what my makeup artist recommends for that photo-ready glow:

1. Be Gentle With Your Skin

Now’s not the time to experiment with new products or harsh scrubs. Stick to what your skin already knows and loves.

  • Use a gentle cleanser, heavily fragranced or drying

  • Ditch the makeup wipes and try cleansing oil instead (way less irritating)

  • Keep your makeup light the week before if you can

If your skin leans sensitive, pair that oil cleanser with a soft foaming face wash to keep everything calm and happy.

2. Exfoliate, But Don’t Overdo It

Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells and leaves your face smoother and more even for makeup. But if your skin gets red or reactive, go easy.

  • Aim for 1–2 times a week max

  • Avoid harsh scrubs or acids right before the shoot

  • If exfoliating feels too much, swap in a hydrating mask instead

Smooth skin means your makeup will sit better and your natural glow shines through.

3. Hydrate Like It’s Your Job

Hydration is the secret sauce to that soft, dewy skin look in photos.

  • Use a good face moisturiser morning and night

  • Add a hyaluronic acid serum to lock in moisture

  • If you’re into it, anti-aging creams can give your skin a little extra plumpness

  • Don’t forget to drink water, your skin notices

Bonus tip: Start moisturising your whole body too, especially knees, elbows, and any dry patches. Soft skin everywhere just feels better.

Remember, skincare is self-care. These little rituals aren’t just about the photos—they’re about showing up for yourself.
